Sep 5, 2010 - MTN 3g modem software for vodafone USB modem. The '-Z' after the model name means it is made by ZTE, not Huawei. Terencek said.
Hey guys, new to the whole 'Apple thing',
Just got the new MBP the other day after exchanging the one I'd bought last week (last year's lower-end 15' model), problem is I've tried installing my three usb dongle onto it but the setup assistant is failing to recognise the dongle and it isn't turning up in network preferences so i'm assuming something is wrong with the drivers. It worked last week, even after I'd updated 10.6.5 to 10.6.6.
Oh, I should add that the whole system crashed (everything froze and a little window advised me to hold down the power button) after I updated iweb and java for mac, this was all before I tried to install the dongle.
I did a reinstall using the supplied disc but the problem persists, I can't get this silly dongle to be recognised on the system!
Also, today I was on windows 7 professional and instead of shutting it down I put it to sleep; after about 4 or 5 hours it turned itself on! The white apple on the back screen turned on and then it put itself into hibernation... The one I had last week didn't do this so what gives?
Is it a function of Windows to go into hibernation after 5 hours? The MBP was plugged in the entire time so I don't understand it...
If anyone could provide any insight I'd be much obliged!

To be successful in a competitive marketplace, you must generate ongoing revenue for your business, and you must also reduce costs whenever possible. If you have a Vodafone USB modem you use for a mobile Internet connection, you're probably aware that the company locks devices to prevent use with other service providers. Nevertheless, you can unlock virtually any Vodafone USB modem if you know the unlock code. Using software freely available on the Internet, you can calculate the code you need for your Vodafone modem and unlock the device in a matter of minutes. After you unlock the modem, you can use it with any other service provider that supports mobile Internet connections through a modem with a SIM card.
1.Disconnect the USB modem from the PC if you have not already done so. Slide the rear cover off the modem and remove the Vodafone SIM card. Locate and record the IMEI number inside the modem. The IMEI number is a unique code that consists of 15 or 17 digits and identifies a mobile station, such as a cellphone or modem, to supported wireless networks.
2.Download and install a Vodafone modem-unlock application. Programs such as Vodafone K3565 Unlock Code Generator, CardLock_Unlock and Universal MasterCode are free apps that can calculate the unlock code for Huawei and ZTE modems used by Vodafone. The programs generate the code based on the device's IMEI number.
3.Launch the unlock code generator program. Type your modem's IMEI code in the corresponding field and click the “Calculate” or “Generate” button to generate the unlock code.
4.Insert a SIM card from a service provider other than Vodafone into the USB modem. Replace the rear cover on the modem and connect the device to your PC. Wait a few seconds for Windows to detect the modem and configure it for use on your computer.
5.Launch the Vodafone Connection Manager application on the PC. After a few seconds, the Connection Manager displays a window prompting you to enter the unlock code for the USB modem. This is because the application cannot detect the Vodafone SIM card in the modem. Enter the code generated by the unlocker application into the field and click “OK.”
6.Navigate to the website of your new service provider and click the “Support” or “Download” link to download the connection manager program for that mobile carrier. Install the program on your computer.
7.Launch the connection manager application for the new provider and use the old Vodafone USB modem to connect to the Internet just as you would if you'd received a freshly commissioned modem from the new service provider.
Tip
- You can determine the manufacturer of your Vodafone modem by clicking the “Tools” link and then clicking the “Diagnostics” link in the Vodafone Connection Manager application. In the Diagnostics window, the manufacturer and model number of the modem appears at the top of the screen.
